Glass and system
With balcony glazing, the question naturally arises: with which glass it should be executed? At least toughened safety glass (TSG) is required here. This results in a greater load capacity over the area, more stability and a higher temperature change resistance, i.e. the risk of glass breakage is significantly reduced.
Due to the use of laminated safety glass (LSG), Glas Marte systems are also suitable for particularly large glass panes or for use in areas that are highly exposed to the wind.
Depending on the system, the installation of insulating glass is also possible. Here, the thermal insulation quality (Ug value) is decisive: The Ug value should be as low as possible in order to achieve better thermal insulation and less heating.
Fixed glazing or sliding system?
Apart from the glass used, different glazing systems are also available. We present the two most important types below:
Fixed glazing for balcony glazing
Fixed glazing is the cheapest option. It cannot be opened and is difficult to clean. In winter, this construction method offers advantages: Thanks to them, better thermal insulation can be achieved with relatively little effort. Closed conservatories on the balcony are equally easy to shade. However, fixed glazing offers little flexibility, as it is not possible to push the glazing to the side and thus enjoy unrestricted freedom. Ventilation is also limited.
Sliding system for balcony glazing
Sliding systems allow wide opening of the glazing and thus enable adaptation to the respective environmental conditions: open in fair weather, closed in wind or rain. Building with sliding glazing has become a clear architectural requirement due to the advanced technical possibilities. Discreet profiles virtually detach the glass envelope from the substructure and create frameless, "floating" all-glass envelopes. Since they are operated linearly, they are also suitable for less deep balconies.

Sliding systems for balcony, loggia and conservatory
All Glas Marte systems are in-house developments. In all our glazing systems, we use only high-quality materials, such as aluminium profiles, stainless steel ball bearing rollers and weather-resistant brush seals, in order to offer a particularly durable product that also withstands sub-zero temperatures. We attach great importance to maintenance, for example, drainage is appropriate in the visible area – contamination by leaves, soil or other things over time, can thus easily be removed. In addition, depending on the system, we also offer a special added benefit: the easy-to-use comfort package. As a result, several glass panes can be coupled together and moved to the left and right at the same time; they can be unlocked again by simply tapping with the foot. In addition, the system also has particularly low running rails and is therefore barrier-free if required.
GM LIGHTROLL® – bottom mounted sliding systems
This bottom mounted balcony glazing glides effortlessly over the running rails mounted on the floor. The individual sliding elements can easily be moved to the left and right. Depending on your individual preference, the glazing thus remains completely open, half open or completely closed. Depending on the system, the patio or conservatory is also accessible to people with disabilities, elderly persons or young children thanks to the particularly low rails.
GM TOPROLL® – top-hung sliding systems
Balcony glazing from the GM TOPROLL® family is pushed in one direction or the other via the guide rails attached to the ceiling. The toeboard of the systems is used to protect the glass against damage. GM TOPROLL® systems are particularly suitable for floor-to-ceiling and large-scale solutions as well as for use in areas that are highly exposed to wind.
GM TWINROLL® – bottom mounted insulating glass sliding system
This bottom mounted sliding system is ideal for conservatories and other glass extensions. Insulating glass is used in this system so that the rooms are better usable even in the cool season due to the thermally insulating properties.
